Five A Side Final Business Fives Set For Climax Of Winter Season
The five a side event for footie-loving firms in Scotland, which runs through January and February, culminates in finals day at the state-of-the-art SoccerWorld venue in Glasgow on 14th March.
The Five A Side Final of the tournament, which has been supported by Insider.co.uk, encourages firms across Scotland to enter a five-a-side team in both a winter and summer event, is coming to the end of its fourth season. Exactly 3,999 goals have been scored at Business Fives events so far and the first goal of the winter season Five A Side Final final will be a significant milestone for the company.
74 companies have been narrowed down to 21 with 3 teams qualifying from each of the 7 events throughout Scotland in Edinburgh, Glasgow, Dundee and Aberdeen. Companies from various industry sectors including Professional Services, Energy, Food, Drink & Hospitality and Construction, Housing & Property will be represented in the Five A Side Final. The full line up of companies involved is below.
This winter Business Fives has continued to allow companies to play for their chosen charity over with the winning companies at the final determining the destination of its company commitment to donate 10 per cent of everything to their cause this winter. Alzheimer Scotland have 4 companies playing for them and MacMillan have 2 companies playing for their cause at the Five A Side Final.
So far more than £9,344 has been raised for various charities with CHAS the biggest beneficiaries as the team from Vodafone raised £1,100 for them, other notable fundraising efforts were EQ Accountants who raised £500 for Maggies and Rubberatkins who raised £739 for Kidney Kids Scotland.
There has been a host of famous ex-players and sporting celebrities supporting the tournament as ambassadors including Scotland and Aberdeen goalkeeping legend Jim Leighton, ex Dundee, Celtic and Scotland stopper Rab Douglas, Hearts ambassador Gary Locke, Hibs legend Pat Stanton, Street Soccer Scotland and ex Rangers captain Ally Dawson, former Man City, Leicester and Celtic goal scorer Jim Melrose along with Sky Sports commentator and former Celt Andy Walker.
Tournament founder and Business Fives managing director John McClarey – who will shortly be launching the 2018 dates for the highly-successful Business Fours golf tournament – says it’s a great opportunity for businesses to bond with colleagues outside of the office, get fit and raise money for charity.
John said: “We are delighted with how the winter events have gone, especially how they have been received in our new cities, Aberdeen and Dundee. Feedback from the participants has been fantastic. The standard has been high and we wish all the teams the best of luck in the final.
“We’ve almost quadrupled our total amount going to charity from last year’s winter event which has been a brilliant achievement from everyone involved.”
