Swire OS crowned champions of Aberdeen Charity Football Event

Aberdeen Charity Football Event

Business Fives arrives for the Aberdeen Charity Football Event for the summer instalment of the National Business five-a-side football tournament.

The Aberden Charity Football event for corporates returned to the Granite city for the fourth of 6 qualifiers throughout Scotland and there was three places up for grabs as firms in the North East gathered in the summer sun.

On the pitch the opening group fixtures done little to separate the teams with four companies split by just three points, Grampian Housing Association, Johnston Carmichael, CALA Homes and Swire Oilfield Services.

With only goals scored separating the top 2 teams CALA Homes set up a final with Swire OS and it was the Oil & Gas firm that won the tight affair courtesy of a Man of the Match performance by Keir Marshall as he helped his side hold out for victory after a late CALA onslaught.  The Swire OS team will go on to play for Charlie House at the national final having raised £150 for them in the build up to the event.

Competition was high in the Aberdeen Charity Football Event Europa League section for the remaining place at the National final up for grabs.  It was NorDan who found form at the right time to rise to the occasion sealing a 5-2 Victory against Grampian Housing Association, who had earlier beaten the eventual winners, to set up a final against Johnston Carmichael who swept aside the team from Optimus Aberdeen.

Not to be disheartened by missing out in the Europa League final the Optimus team secured silverware as the top fundraisers from the event having reached a total £235 for their chosen charity the Denis Law Legacy Trust.

In a goal laden performance tournament top goal scorer Liam Duncan finished the day on 21 goals as he helped Johnston Carmichael through to the national final where they will join their colleagues from the Edinburgh branch.

Aberdeen and Scotland Legend Jim Leighton was on hand to share stories from his playing career well as handout the trophies to the successful teams from the Aberdeen Charity Football Event.

In the last of the individual awards it was Hannah Clews from Optimus Aberdeen who lifted the player of the tournament award.

The Business Fives action continues on Thursday with the penultimate qualifier of the Summer season in Glasgow before the National final in Edinburgh on Friday the 27th of September.
