Tech giants Softcat become the champions of Leeds
Business Fives returned to Leeds on Tuesday for the third time with the event turning out to be a huge success despite storm Ciara’s. Whilst the teams faced four seasons in one-day companies braved the elements to score 217 goals in 74 matches as 23 local businesses make their bid for the 3 qualifying places at England’s 2020 winter season National final.
The companies combined to raise over £3,000 for charity and competition was tight for the top fundraiser award with Naughtone raising £700 for Make a Wish and both the Torsion Group and Redrow Homes raising £640 each for Simon on the Streets and Martin House Hospice respectively. The Business Fives Winter season charity total is now over £24,000 meaning our target of raising £25,000 in a single season is well within reach.
The players were treated to a post-match debrief and Q & A with former Leeds United stars Richard Creswell and Mel Sterland who shared their thoughts on the season ahead as well as some rather funny memories from their illustrious playing careers in English football.
They had the tough job of picking a man of the match in the final torn between 3 players he eventually singled out tournament top goal scorer, Jackson Walker from the eventual champions, Softcat.
Making their way to the Champions League final and successfully securing qualification to the finals were teams from Epiphany and Softcat.
The final qualifying spot up for grabs went to the winners of the Europa League section and the final was contested between the second of two teams. The first from BW Legal who overcame their sister team from the firm and the second from InVentry who got passed AND Digital in the semi-final. It was a team effort in the end with the BW Legal team claiming victory.
BigChange, Barnett Waddingham, First Group, Epiphany, Thermac Hire, Intermarketing Agency, Sigma Grp and Softcat all made their way into the Champions league section quarterfinals. Softcat, Sigma Grp, Epiphany and Intermarketing Agency all reached the Champions League semi-finals and in the end, Softcat became the champions of Leeds with a convincing 6 nil win over Epiphany in the final.
The action continues in England on Tuesday in Newcastle before further stops in Manchester, Liverpool, Sheffield, Hull, York, Leeds and Birmingham before the national final in Manchester on Wednesday 8th April.
