May’s Modern Warfare Tournament Provides Thrills, Spills and Kills…
The May Business Esports served up a thrilling week of action on the call of duty Modern Warfare battlefield racking up over 1,500 (virtual) kills. The tournament saw the return of some former teams with some new entrants shaking up the action with each team fundraising for their chosen charities that included MIND, The RNLI, Guide Dogs, Marie Curie and Home-Start.
Business Esports regulars Personify XP put their experience to good use by opening up the tournament with a 2-0 win over newcomers Sage. PKF Francis Clark debut saw them beat Cambridge Consultants by the same scoreline. Spectators were able to follow the action online and listening to the team, it was clear to see (and hear) that they were confident of going far in the Tournament.
It was Novatech who lived up to their pre-tournament favourites tag though – having already won £200 for MIND Solent in our January and March tournaments – by starting strongest in the group stages. They opened up with a convincing 2-0 win over Sage, with their captain, Lewis Cole getting a huge 45 kills in the Hardpoint match up. This wouldn’t be the last we, or indeed any of the other teams saw the Novatech captain.
In the second phase of matches Cambridge Consultants beat Personify XP 2-0 which was an extremely tight match with some great team gameplay in show. Tom Merry came in clutch for the consultants with his 36 kills in the Hardpoint map proving decisive. The Personify XP team must have felt hard done by having had an average of 22 kills between them, Josh Scotton leading the way with 25 but they ultimately fell 250 – 160.
Day two saw the early leaders face off and it was Novatech who came out on top against PKF Francis Clark in a hard-fought 2-1 victory in what was arguably the match of the tournament. Despite going down 1-0 after the opening Search and Destroy map, Novatech pulled it back thanks to Captain Cole with 38 kills in Hardpoint and then 41 in the Team Deathmatch sealing the comeback victory.
Cambridge Consultants and PKF Francis Clark then put Sage to the sword with convincing 2-0 wins. Despite their early losses, Team Sage were in good spirits and keen to try and get that elusive win.
After the group stage Novatech led the way, with PKF Francis Clark close behind. Heading into finals night Sage took on the formidable Novatech team in their semi final, with PKF Francis Clark taking on Cambridge Consultants to see who would take who the prize pot for their chosen charity.
Despite a strong start by the Cambridge Consultants, they were beaten 2-0 by Team PKF Francis Clark. Special mention goes to Ryan Higgins for his 43 kills in the Hardpoint map which edged his team over the line and into the final.
They would face the Novatech team who were 2-0 winners over the valiant Sage team.
It was 1st v 2nd from the group stage in the final. Everyone was following along on the Codcast to see if the Novatech team, featuring top marksman would be toppled. The Search and Destroy map was extremely close with the scores level at 4-4 before Novatech proved too strong and took a 1-0 lead going into the Hardpoint Map. It was to be the battle of Lewis and Ryan to see who would come out on top.
The Novatech team, playing in their third Business Esports tournament, proved too strong for the PKF Francis Clark team who can be very proud of their tournament debut. Another 2-0 win meant that Novatech were crowned the May Business Esports champions and took home the £200 prize pot for their charity, MIND Solent. This took their total prize money from our events to £400. A great team playing for a great cause and worthy winners.
