Cooper Parry lift the Cup at the Birmingham Business Fives

Business Fives Birmingham event marked a return to normality as players took to the pitch in an event that proved to be worth the wait.  9 companies took part in the second post lockdown Business Fives event serving up a goal fest with 88 goals across 24 matches and a combined £1,745 raised for charity.

Villa Cup Hero Mark Draper watched the action before entertaining the players with stories from his playing career in the post match debrief and awards presentation.

The most coveted trophy of the day was for hotly contested off the pitch for the top fundraiser award as the teams supported a host of local and national charities.  Almost a third of that total came through the fundraising efforts of Falcon Contract Flooring who raised £440 for their chosen charity Prostate Cancer UK.  Colliers International came a commendable second donating £230 for the Little Princess Trust while Equiniti were in third position raising £200 for the NSPCC.

In the Birmingham sunshine the action on the pitch was tense as played in good spirits as teams from Claire’s Accessories, Softcat, Equiniti and Cooper Parry all made their way into the Champions League section semi finals after 2 group stages.

Cooper Parry reversed their opening match 2-1 defeat to overcome Softcat in the crucial semi final to set up a showpiece finish with Equiniti who overcame Claire’s 2-0 in the adjacent semi final.

With both finalists booking a place at the national finals the Birmingham crown was up for grabs as the match was watched on by Mark Draper.  The game finished 3-1 to Cooper Parry courtesy of a man of the match performance by team captain Ben Westley as Mark Draper singled him out.  Further goals from Cooper Parry’s Billy Shaw saw him lift the top goal scorer award with a respectable 9 goal total.

In the Europa League section semi-finals SCC faced off against Mitchells & Butlers while Falcon Contract Flooring took on Colliers.

The final proved to be a close encounter with Falcon taking on the Mitchells & Butlers team for a space at the national final.  It was top fundraisers Falcon Contract Flooring who eventually ran out 2-1 winners as they secured their place in Manchester on Tuesday 5th April where they will bid to win a share of over £10,000 for Prostate Cancer UK.

Business Esports returns next week before the Fives action continues in Hull and Leeds at the end of this month before.  Business Fours hosts golf events throughout October and further Business Esports online gaming events before Business Fives returns to the pitch in November with events in Sheffield, Nottingham, Liverpool and Stoke.
