CCL Rocket to success in Business Esports September Tournament
The Business Esports September instalment culminated with finals night on Friday 24th September as esports squads put their skills to the test.
With two separate tournaments running throughout the week the league standings in the Warzone event were too close to call heading into finals night.
Three teams were separate by just 1.5 league points heading into the final night of action and what was already a dramatic week of gaming finished in a fashion in keeping with that drama. The teams from BGH North, Autocab and Nexus Open Systems couldn’t be separated all finishing joint winners which saw all 3 of their chosen charities benefit with a donation to JDRF, Diabetes UK and MIND respectively. The £150 prize was split equally amongst the 3 causes with all teams walking away proud of their efforts for the week.
The 9 teams involved in the Rocket League section were battling it out for their share of the £250 charity prize up for grabs. Players and spectators alike could follow along the streams for the week through Twitch with some cracking ties throughout, with Mills & Reeve involved in 2 separate 5 game thrillers.
CCL Computers found themselves outnumbered in the Champions section semi finals as they faced off against 3 squads from AdEPT Technology who showed their strength in depth representing MacMillan.
Having seen off the AdEPT DonnyRockets in the semi finals it was the AdEPT Ball Chasers who won the AdEPT derby taking out the AdEPT Hypesquad to set up a final v CCL.
The Ball Chasers headed into the final in confident mood having already beaten the CCL Computers gamers 3-1 in an early group game. It was CCL who turned that score around to win the final 3-1 after a tight series of games in what was a fitting spectacle which saw MIND win a further £150 with MacMillan securing a £50 donation courtesy of the efforts of AdEPT Technology’s Ball Chasers squad.
In the hotly contested Runners Up Group there was a further donation up for grabs with Outplay and Mills & Reeve winning their semi finals v the AdEPT Kustard Creams and Graphcore respectively. Outplay held their nerve in the final to win the £50 donation but more importantly finished as the tournament top fundraisers having raised £200 for Special Effect.
The final was another 5 game series which went right to the wire with the Outplay team securing victory as Mills & Reeve narrowly missed out on donation. John McClarey from Business Esports said “We’ve thoroughly enjoyed organising the tournament and thank everyone for playing in the right spirit. There has been a real buzz in the Discord Server and we loved following along the streams online with an impressive level of skill on display from all the teams involved.”
Next up will be the November series of Business Esports taking place on every Thursday of the month and finishing with Finals night on Thursday 25th November across our range of titles with some new games in the pipeline.
