Birmingham Football Tournament – Business Fives September 2022
The AA Steer to Success in Birmingham
Business Fives returned to Birmingham on Tuesday 13th September. 22 teams came together to score 290 goals across 75 matches at the Powerleague venue. Teams from across the city were playing for donations for their chosen charity with hopes of becoming the Leeds champions and claim a spot at the National Final in October.
The teams raised over £1725 for charity and the top fundraiser prize was hotly contested. It was the teams from Trios Group who claimed the award having raised a terrific £650 for Macmillan.
On the pitch, it was the teams from The AA, Executive Network Group, Centrick and DAC Beachcroft who made it to the Champions League semi finals. The team from The AA scored 5 to beat DAC Beachcroft in the first semi final before Executive Network Group beat Centrick in a rematch of their group stage showdown, to reach the final.
It was The AA who secured the £350 donation for their chosen charity, Acorns Children’s Hospice, courtesy of a 4-1 win in the final. Guest speaker Paul Devlin identified Wisdom Machangoni as the key player in the final and this scooped him the Player of the Match award as well as his tournament top goalscorer award for his 16 goals.
Both teams secured their spots at a National Final, in Leeds, on Tuesday 18th.
In the other individual award, Nicola Grange, from Trios, earned the Player of the Tournament.
The final qualifying spot and a £150 donation was at stake in the Europa League section as Evelyn, NEC, Margetts and Gateley all made it to the semi-finals. It were the teams from Evelyn and NEC who won their semi-finals courtesy of 3-1 and 4-2 wins respectively.
The Final proved to be a cagey affair but it was the Evelyn Partners team who eventually claimed victory to become Europa League winners, earn a National Final qualifying spot and a £150 donation for MIND.
After the football, teams enjoyed a drinks reception and buffet and were treated to some brilliant stories from former Scotland and Birmingham City midfielder, Paul Devlin.
Business Fives will continue to head across the UK for the remainder of our 2022/23 Winter Season.
