Cardiff Football Tournament – Business Fives September 2022
Amey Consulting win the Cardiff Title Undefeated
Business Fives visited Cardiff for the first time ever on Wednesday 8th September. 27 teams came together to score 331 goals across 82 matches at Gols Centre. Teams from across the city were playing for donations for their chosen charity with hopes of becoming the inaugural Cardiff Business Fives Champions and to claim a spot at the National Final in Leeds next month.
The teams raised over £3,566 for charity and the top fundraiser prize was hotly contested. The Capital on Tap team raised £459 for MIND, but it was the team from sa.global who claimed the award having raised a terrific £666 for Ty Hafan.
On the pitch, it was the teams from Arup, Capital On Tap, Amey Consulting and Spindogs who made it to the Champions League semi-finals. The team from ARUP beat Capital On Tap 2-1 in the first semi-final before Spindogs were edged out by Amey Consulting to set up the final.
However, it was Amey Consulting who secured the £350 donation for their chosen charity, Cancer Research UK, courtesy of a 2-1 win in the final. Runners-Up Arup earned a place at the National Finals, Guest speaker Sol Bamba identified Connor Keating as the key man in the final and this scooped him the Player of the Match award. It was Maddie from the Capital on Tap team who was identified as the ladies player of the tournament.
Both teams secured their spots at a National Final in Leeds, on Tuesday 18th October.
The final qualifying spot and a £150 donation was at stake in the Europa League section as Goals Are Us, NCL, Faithfull + Gould and Acuity Law all made it to the semi-finals.
The Final proved to be a tight affair but it was the Goals Are Us team who eventually claimed victory to become Europa League winners, earning a National Final qualifying spot and a £150 donation for Alzheimer’s Association. After the football, teams enjoyed a drinks reception and buffet and were treated to some brilliant recollections from professional footballer and Cardiff hero Sol Bamba.
Business Fives will continue to head across the UK for the remainder of our 2022 Season.
