Edinburgh Football Tournament – Business Fives August 2022

Sky Rocket to the Title in Edinburgh

Business Fives was back in Edinburgh to welcome businesses from the local area as they combined to score 467 goals across the 86 matches raising £9,558 for various charities.

29 teams competed with the hope of bagging one of five qualifications spots at the National Final.

Off the pitch the Top Fundraiser award went to the Steedman & Company team who raised an incredible £2,412 for Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland to lift the trophy.  In second place the Advance Global Recruitment team raised £1,400 for Young Lives V Cancer while Lynchpin raised a fantastic £992 playing in support of Maggies.

After an AGR derby in the quarter finals, it was their Team 1 who went on to face Forth Capital in the Champions League semi-final after their 4-0 victory against Johnston Carmichael. Sky squeezed by Breadalbane Finance courtesy of a penalty shootout while Hitachi Rail continued their goalscoring form beating Multrees 3 nil.

All four teams secured a spot at the National Final taking place in Glasgow on Thursday 20th October.

An intense 5-3 semi-final seen Sky get past Hitachi Rail thanks to 2 in play penalty saves from goal keeper Ross Calder. In the adjacent semi final Forth Capital got past AGR 3-2 to book a final spot.

In the final, Sky started strong racing into a 2 goal lead but the fact shot stopper Ross Calder was singled out as the player of the match in the final tells a fuller story as the Sky team went on to secure the Business Fives Edinburgh title and a £350 donation for Scottys Little Soldiers.

Aaron Dunsmore from AGR won the top goalscorer award with his tally of 17 just pipping team mate Anthony Howden by one goal who was on hand to accept the trophy on his behalf.

Alana Morrison from Warmworks was awarded the Player of the Tournament Award for her performances on the pitch.

In the Europa League, BNY Mellon made it to the final after a 5-1 win against Burness Paull and played Dickson Minto who beat Ramboll 6-1.

It was BNY Mellon who secured the final qualification spot up for grabs as well as a £150 donation for their chosen charity.

A final £100 donation was on offer for the winner of the Europa Conference League which went to Action for Children after Morton Fraser won that final v Wild Child Animations 4-3.

After the football, teams enjoyed a drinks reception and buffet and were treated to some brilliant stories from Scotland and Hearts hero Colin Cameron.
