Construction heat builds towards Oriam Final

The Construction heat of Business Fives indoor winter edition took place at the SoccerWorld venue in Glasgow on Thursday 24

The Construction heat of Business Fives indoor winter edition took place at the SoccerWorld venue in Glasgow on Thursday 24th November.  8 teams from across the construction industry took place and battled it out for their place in the national final at the Oriam Centre on February 9th.

The heat was sponsored by managed business communications firm, Difference Corp and supported by the Federation of Master Builders and Scottish Construction Now.

Ally Dawson from Business Fives charity partner, Street Soccer Scotland was on hand to tell the participants about the fantastic work the charity is currently involved in supporting positive change through football.  Business Fives is supporting their efforts with ten per cent of proceeds from the national tournament going towards the charity.

The tournament group stages proved tight encounters with 3 teams finishing on 7 points in the two groups with Story Contracting topping their group just ahead of Multiplex on goal difference and William Tracey Group topping the adjacent group.

The quarter finals we’re high scoring with every team registering at least 2 goals, WGM Engineering added two to that tally to squeeze past Story Contracting.  William Tracey Group were beginning to get into their stride at this stage easing past Allstar Joinery 7-2.  McCarthy & Stone came from behind to force their quarter final with ISG Construction to penalties, eventually winning in sudden death.  Multiplex came through in similar fashion after a hard fought 2-2 draw with Careys.

The semi-finals proved similarly high scoring with 16 goals across the two games.  Having served up a draw in the early group stage match William Tracey Group v McCarthy & Stone was sure to be a tight affair with William Tracey Group eventually winning 4-2.  WGM Engineering’s 4 goals weren’t enough to secure victory against Multiplex who managed 6 to secure their place at the national final at Oriam on February 9th.

The final was a closer affair than the score line suggests with William Tracey Groups keeper, Peter Kane being named man of the match a testament of that.  With the two sides meeting for the first time it was the influential Tony Boyce who proved decisive scoring a hat trick on his way to becoming the top scorer in the heat with 13 goals.  William Tracey Group eventually ran out 6-2 winners and look a force to be reckoned with for the overall title.

The action continues in January with Professional services heat and Housing and Property in Glasgow heat along with a Food, Drink and Hospitality heat in Edinburgh.
