Nordens back on top in London

We wrapped up the summer season qualifiers with the final event of the season in London on Thursday in what was an absolute goal fest with a goals per game ratio of 8.52, a record for a Business Fives event.

The 16 teams involved combined to create a really fun atmosphere with the most amount of mixed teams we have seen this season with a third of the teams mixed. The goals were flying in as they hit the back of the net 358 times in 42 matches teams raising £2,397 for charity in the process.

The top goal scorer award was hotly contested with 4 separate players all recording tallys of over 20 goals, a total worth of winning any tournament but it was Tom from the Penny Group who counted the most with a total of 25.

The Top Fundraiser award was a more one sided affair thanks to the extraordinary efforts from the Fitflop team whos fundraising initiatives included Thai lunches, Massages, a bake sale and selling off stock to raise £1,377 for Barons Court Project to lift the trophy.  In a very respectable second place it was the Jack Morton team who raised £380 for Young Minds and they also got their hands on some silverware as their star player Sophie was named as the Player of the Tournament.

After just missing out in the final of the National Finals in winter Nordens were hungry to go one better this time round and gave themselves every chance as they successfully defended their London title. They got past Verisk Sequel in the Semi finals as they secured their spot at the National Final taking place on Tuesday 18th October in Leeds alongside Qurated Network after their 5-2 win against Pareto Law.

Nordens continued their free scoring in the final as they ran our 6-2 winners to be crowned London Business Fives champions for the second time and securing a further £350 donation for the Friends of Essex and London Homeless.

Jamie Lawrence was impressed enough by Mitch Hahn from Nordens to single him out as player of the match in the final. Jamie was on hand to share stories from his playing career which seen him move from prison to the Premiership in what has been a real success story for the former Jamaican international.

In the Europa League section it was top fundraisers Fitflop, the Goring Hotel, The Penny Group and EDGE Technology who all made their way to the semi finals. With the remaining qualification spot up for grabs it was a very tight final between the Penny Group and the Goring Hotel which went all the way to penalties.

It was the Penny Group who held their nerve to slot home the winning penalty as they qualified for Leeds and won a donation of £150 for the OpenWork Foundation
