Sheffield Football Tournament – Business Fives November 2021
Fortem for the win in Sheffield
The Business Fives Sheffield event served up 187 goals in 74 matches as the 27 companies that took part combined to raise a fantastic £5,325 for various local charities.
With three qualifying spots at the Business Fives National final up for grabs where there is a prize of over £10,000 for charity there was a lot to play for on the pitch.
Off the pitch competition was high in the race to lift the top fundraiser award as sponsors Mattress Online set an early marker not to be surpassed by raising £1,100 for Zarach to secure the trophy.
Fortem came a commendable second raising £760 for MIND, Crash and 52 Lives as they looked to bolster that total. Tufcot Engineering finished in third place raising £637 for Bluebell Wood Hospice.
With fixtures coming thick and fast Mattress Online, EDGE PS, Radius Aerospace and Fortem all found themselves progressing into the Champions League semi-finals. Eventually it was EDGE PS who took on Fortem in the final as both teams safely secured passage to the national final in Manchester on Tuesday 5th April 2022.
Fortem eventually ran out 2 nil winners to win a £500 donation for 52 Lives as Fraser Branton was singled out by former Wednesday hero David Hirst as the man of the match in the final. It was a 3 way split for the top goal scorer trophy, sponsored by Mattress Online as Tom Nicolson from Fortem, Brad Jones from Tufcot and Lee Pearson from Westfield Health all finished on 9 goals.
In the other individual awards Katie Birch from Graysons was selected as the Player of the Tournament for her contribution to the Graysons side run to the Intertoto Cup semi final.
Hart Shaw, Sutton McGrath, Stowe Family Law and Westfield Health all opted to try their luck at securing qualification through the Europa League route.
It was Sutton McGrath and Hart Shaw who progressed to the final where Hart Shaw ran out 3-0 winners to lift the Europa League trophy, scoop the qualifying spot and bag themselves a £250 donation for their chosen charity, Bluebell Wood Hospice.
David Hirst entertained the players with stories from his playing career which included cup wins, finals and the hardest shot recorded in Premier League history at the post match Q&A.
Business Fives will be back in Sheffield on Tuesday 22nd March for another qualifying round and full details can be found on our website here.
