Swansea Football Tournament – Business Fives September 2022
Goals Galore as Glass Systems Scoop Swansea Title
Business Fives visited Swansea for the first time ever on Wednesday 7th September. 6 teams came together to score 132 goals across 18 matches at the Goals venue. Teams from across the city were playing for donations for their chosen charity with hopes of becoming the inaugural Swnasea Business Fives champions and claim a spot at the National Final in Leeds next month.
The teams raised over £2105 for charity and the top fundraiser prize was hotly contested. The W.G. Davies team raised £310 for Swansea MIND, but it was the team from the Edenstone group who claimed the award having raised a terrific £1500 for The Leon Heart Fund.
On the pitch, after the round robin it was the teams from Glass Systems and Dunbia who made it to the coveted Champions League final! After a narrow defeat in the group stage, Dunbia were keen to try and claim victory over the Glass Systems team.
However, it was the Glass Systems who secured the £200 donation for their chosen charity, Prostate Cymru, courtesy of a 6-3 win in the final. Guest speaker Lee Trundle identified Ricky Pope as the key player in the final after his four goals and this scooped him the Player of the Match award as well as his tournament top goalscorer award for his 18 goals.
Both teams secured their spots at a National Final in Leeds, on Tuesday 18thOctober.
The final qualifying spot and a £100 donation was at stake in the Europa League section as W.G. Davies awaited the winners of the semi-final between Motorpoint and Edenstone Group. It was the latter who were victorious courtesy of a 5-3 win and set up a final with W.G Davies.
The Final proved to be a goal-fest, and it was the W.G. Davies team who eventually claimed victory to become Europa League winners, after an 8-3 win! This earned a National Final qualifying spot and a £100 donation for Swansea MIND to add to their £310 total!
After the football, teams enjoyed a drinks reception and buffet and were treated to some brilliant stories from former Bristol City and Swansea legend, Lee Trundle.
Business Fives will continue to head across the UK for the remainder of our 2022 Season.
