London Football Tournament – Business Fives August 2022
PGIM Investments Top the Tables in London
Business Fives returned to London for the first of two events in the city as part of the summer season. A fantastic effort in the stifling heat from all the players as they scored 487 goals in 74 games with the 25 teams raising £5,775 for charity in the process.
The Top Fundraiser award was hotly contested, with it changing hands multiple times throughout the day. TrustPayments place third raising £510 for Alzheimer’s Research UK. StockX came runners up having raised £1,350 for Met Up UK and it was Bau MEP who came out on top with a combined total of £1,430 raised for Snap Charity and 4 Louis.
After just missing out on qualification last season at the Leicester event, Redwood Bank were hungry to go one better this time round and managed to do so, skipping past Prospero Group in the Champions League semi final with a 3-1 win. They secured their spot at the National Final taking place on Tuesday 18th October in Leeds alongside PGIM after their 4-3 win against Empiric who made it back to back semi final appearances.
A close final seen PGIM crowned London Business Fives champions after their 3-2 victory against Redwood Bank and scoop the £350 donation for Alzheimer’s Society.
Nigel Spackman was impressed enough by Barcin from PGIM to singled him out as player of the match in the final and Callum Griffiths from Empiric was miles out in front for the Top Goal Scorer award with an impressive total of 28 goals scored.
Player of the tournament was awarded to Jodie Richards from LOD Law for her efforts in assisting the team getting to the Europa League Final courtesy of a thrilling comeback v Bovill. They were joined by Investis Digital after their comfortable 5-0 win against Similarweb.
In the final, Investis Digital continued to show their goal scoring ability with a final scoreline of 8-3 as the team secured the final qualification spot and a £150 donation for MIND.
The final £100 donation went to MIND after Tipalti won the Europe Conference League which boosts their fundraising efforts to £425.
After the football, teams were entertained by former Liverpool, Chelsea and Rangers star Nigel Spackman telling stories of his playing days in England and Scotland as well as his management career.
